Mercedes to revise R-Class
11 July 2007
Out goes the slow-selling £74,000 R63 AMG and in comes the first two-wheel drive, five-seat R-Class, the R280 CDi, priced at around £36,000. The R-Class will now be available with seven, rather than six, seats as standard arranged in a two-three-two formation. An AMG bodykit will also become standard on every model in the range. The entry-level R280 CDi does without the heavy four-wheel-drive system of existing R-Classes, with power going to the rear wheels only. Although the price will still be around £36,000 for the five-seat version, Mercedes promises the kit count will be increased to make it better value than before. The 510bhp R63 AMG performance model has been dropped from the range, although its look will remain. At the relaunch, an Edition S model with AMG body kit, privacy glass and 19-inch wheels will be available. Full details of the revised range will be on whatcar.com next week. | ||
