BMW M3: First verdict
06 July 2007
The wraps are off the hotly-anticipated BMW M3 – and first press reviews are good for petrolheads everywhere. Over the past six months, the motoring world have hyped up the first V8-powered M3, billing it as the most important performance car of the year. The 4-litre monster produces 420bhp and 295 lb/ft of pulling power – enabling a 0-62mph (100kph) dash of just 4.8 seconds. And the £50,000 motor features a re-designed, race tuned chassis and suspension to give the coupe the handling and grip of supercar. As with previous M3s, the latest model, codenamed E92 is expected to offer serious, race-bred performance and everyday practicality, while maintaining a realistic price tag. It doesn’t go on sale until September, but here’s what the press are saying. The Sun Motors “BMW’s new M3 is an outrageous and seriously wicked car, a four-seater coupe that thinks it’s a supercar. It’s a beast quite capable of twitching nervously if you push it hard, but it’s also surprisingly capable of being driven sedately.” Car magazine “In trying to hit too many targets, the M3 leaves the purist wanting. So a [lightweight] CSL version is an absolute must. If you want a great all-rounder and you don’t drive everywhere at ten tenths, the new M3 won’t disappoint.” Autocar “The steering never scores more than six out of 10 no matter where or how you drive the car. Nor do the brakes, which suffered from fade on the road. As an everyday super-coupe the M3 is some motorcar. So long as you can afford the fuel bills.” Click here for more pics of the BMW M3Auto Trader Links Used BMW M3s for sale BMW M3 news
