Top Gear star: “I prefer cycling”
30 April 2007
TV presenter Richard Hammond has confessed he would rather cycle around town than drive. The pint-sized star has also slammed the use of 4x4s in cities. Speaking in an interview with GQ magazine, Hammond said: “When I am in town I get around either on a scooter, motorbike or on a bicycle. “Driving a Range Rover in London is pretty unnecessary.” And co-presenter Jeremy Clarkson has ridiculed the TV star. Hammond said: “I think if you have a meeting in London, you can get in some decent exercise. Clarkson takes the p**s of course.” SUVs hit the news after Richmond Council hiked up the price for parking permits for car emitting the most carbon dioxide. London mayor Ken Livingstone has also said he would like to increase the congestion charge to £25 for the biggest polluters. Auto Trader Links: Top Gear backlash over Clarkson joke
