What do you do if you if you want a unique car and money is no object? Speak to Italian company Zagato, of course

This one-off Maserati GS was made by the Milan-based coachbuilder to resemble the historic 1954 Maserati A6 G Zagato.

Using the GS’s 4.2-litre V8, coupled to a six-speed gearbox, the Maserati GS Zagato produces 400bhp and 330lb/ft of pulling power.

This enables acceleration from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 176mph - while averaging 16.2mpg.

On show at weekend at the Corncours d’Elegance Villa d’Est, Italy, the all-aluminium body wears the Maserati trident badge on the bonnet with the Zagato 'Z' logo on the wing.

And to improve handling and stability on corners, the wheelbase has been shortened by 180mm.

Italian furnishing magnate Paolo Boffi commissioned Zagato to make the model, which has been extensively re-bodied to look like the 1950’s supercar which became a successful racer.

In the past, Zagato has modified motors made by prestige brands such as Aston Martin and Dutch car maker Spyker.

Last year, they unveiled the Ferrari 575GTZ – a one-off supercar based on the 50-year-old 250GTZ Berlinetta.
