All-new Jeep Wrangler - first pics
18 April 2007
Jeep has unveiled its first four door Wrangler for sale in the UK. The iconic American 4x4 will also feature a diesel engine for the first time in its 20 year history. The oil-burner and long wheelbase versions are the headline-grabbers in a range which has been completely revamped inside and out. The iconic Wrangler is expected to be more refined, benefiting from traction control and electronic stability programme for the first time, while maintaining its retro rugged looks and hardcore off-road performance. The 4x4 will be available in two shapes - a two-door Wrangler and long-wheelbase four-door Wrangler Unlimited. There will be a choice of two engines, a 2.8-litre diesel – in manual or automatic – which produces 174bhp and 302lb/ft of pulling power, and an all-new 3.8-litre petrol engine. Buyers looking for a bit more space may opt for the Unlimited, which is available as a 2.8-litre diesel – with the choice of manual or automatic gearbox. Targeting the Land Rover Defender-dominated market, the Wrangler diesel will have a combined fuel economy of just under 30mpg. It can also be transformed into a convertible by removing the roof panels. The Wrangler took its looks from the classic Willys MB Jeep used by American GIs in World War II. Launching in May, prices start from £17,995 for the Jeep Wrangler 2.8CRD, rising to £23,075 for the top-end Wrangler Unlimited. We’re testing the new Jeep Wrangler range next month, so don’t forget to come back for a full review.
