Top Gear moving to America?
10 April 2007
Top Gear is set to make Stateside stars of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. American TV bosses are in talks with the BBC to have the show made in the US. Top Gear USA would be fronted by British presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May – making the trio Stateside superstars. The format will be the same as the UK show, but will focus on American made motors such as Cadillacs and Buicks, according to a BBC source. A BBC spokesperson told The Sun: "It's very exciting. Jeremy and the guys can’t wait to teach the Yanks a bit about cars." The programme is the latest in a long line of UK shows to be exported to the US, with The Office, The Vicar of Dibley and Steptoe and Son all becoming Stateside successes. We got Baywatch, Knight Rider… and The Simpsons. BBC smash hit Life on Mars, starring Auto Talk subject Phil Glenister, is also being remade for US TV network ABC.
