Aston Martin supercar brand up for sale
29 January 2007
Love Aston Martin? Got £500 million in the bank? If the answer to both these questions is “Yes” then you’ve got until tomorrow to make an offer for the carmaker. The prestige marque whose models include the Vanquish and DB9 is on the market But the asking price is over half a billion pounds. Troubled carmaker Ford – who announced losses of $12.7 billion in 2006 – put the luxury brand up for sale late last year to reduce spiralling debts. Now UBS, the investment bank managing the sale has put a deadline of tomorrow for final offers. Financial experts have valued the Gaydon-based supercar maker between £350 million and £1 billion, with bids now reaching the £500 million mark. And interested parties will have to prize the company – famed for being James Bond’s choice of transport – away from Australia’s richest man, James Packer, whose consortium is leading the bidding race against a list of private equity groups. But if you can’t afford to buy Aston Martin and have a few quid to spare, four of Michael Schumacher’s old F1 cars are also on the market – a snip at £3.3 million.
