BMW 1-series sold out

BMW's 1-series is expected to sell out in the UK before it even arrives in the showrooms.

The Golf-sized hatchback, which goes on sale in September, has attracted a lot of interest already and BMW insiders say the entire 2004 allocation of cars will have sold out before the end of the summer.

A spokesman said: There has been a huge amount of interest in this car. Even before the first images had been revealed we were being inundated by requests for information. Buyers going into showrooms in the autumn will almost certainly be ordering 2005 models.'

Prices for the 1-series will start from around £15,500 for the five-door hatchback. A three-door version is set to arrive in the UK in 2005 while a coupe and convertible will be launched in 2006.
