Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
And the British F1 ace’s daily drive – his Formula One racer – had a big part to play in the development of the SLR. It has a body made from carbon-fibre composites and uses massive ceramic brakes. But you won’t care about its 50-year racing heritage or its sophisticated parts – bury your right foot and let 626bhp and 5.5-litres of supercharged madness take you from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 207mph. In fact, the whine from the supercharger as you wind up the monster SLR is worth the £330,000 asking price alone…
Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’
And what they rolled out in the 1950s was an absolute masterpiece. Considered by many as the prettiest Mercedes ever, the 300SL features unique upwards-opening ‘gullwing’ doors, an intricate tubular ‘spaceframe’ chassis and a 3-litre straight-six engine churning out 215bhp – a supercar for its decade.
Mercedes-Benz 190 Evo II
But in 1990, Mercedes pulled the wraps off the Evolution II – and out of the shadows stepped the car dubbed ‘Batmobile.’ The 190 Evo II sported a 2.5-litre engine developing 235bhp and in a car weighing the same as a current BMW 1 Series, it meant 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 150mph – enough to rack up 50 touring car race wins in just three years. Did someone say BMW M3…? Search for a used Mercedes-Benz 190
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
But Mercedes trumped them all with this – the 450bhp C63 AMG. It has a seven speed automatic gearbox, features suspension which is twice as stiff as the standard car and has wider tracks at the front and rear of the car coupled to a massive bodykit – factor in the huge 442lb/ft of pulling power and suddenly the C-Class Merc get a whole lot scarier… Search for a used C63 AMG
Mercedes CLS
The award-winning CLS is a car built for the people – company bosses gave the green-light to the CLS following a massive customer demand for the concept. The CLS is the first four-door, four-seat car which offers saloon-like practicality coupled to stunning coupe looks. And spice it up with the AMG flavour – a 6.3-litre V8 engine – and you have a seriously quick, seriously sexy and utterly cool Mercedes-Benz. Search for a used Mercedes CLS

Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG
But Mercedes’ tuning division – AMG – had other plans for the coupe, and slotted in a monster 5.5-litre supercharged V8 engine which meant one thing: 500bhp. A 0-62mph time of 4.7 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph meant the sedate continent-cruiser had turned into a hardened road-rocket. And coupled to those massive AMG alloy wheels and bodykit, the SL55 AMG had the show to match the go – even Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson used to own one… Search for a used SL55 AMG
Mercedes-Benz 600
Built in an era when Mercedes was a byword for build-quality and unmatched class, the Mercedes-Benz 600 was a car built to be driven in – it even had a powered window separating the driver from the passenger. Even Mercedes’ mighty 6.3-litre V8 engine of the time was only just enough to propel the heavyweight 600 limousine – making it an excellent executive ride. Search for a used Mercedes-Benz 600
Mercedes S-Class
The S-Class’ technical innovations have regularly become standard fit for the rest of the car industry and the model is seen as starting the trend – the current generation S-Class features radar sensors, seats with an extended massage function, and night view assist with infra-red technology. Put it simply, the S-Class is an astonishing car, winning numerous awards including “Best Car”, “Most Innovative Saloon”, “Highest Design Quality” and “World’s Finest Car”. CLK GTR
Built to compete in the FIA GT championship in the late 1990s, the CLK GTR was powered by a mammoth 6-litre V12 engine developing 600bhp and helped the Mercedes team to win the 1997 FIA GT championship. And a variant of this monster V12 would find itself inside one of the 21st century’s most bonkers hypercars – the Pagani Zonda.
