The world's most incredible limousine interiors

The world's most incredible limousine interiors - Feature Image
With enough lights to rival Blackpool illuminations, stepping inside the limos is like going to another world.

Ever wondered what the inside of those gigantic limousines look like as they roll past?

Alex Eckford went to Chauffeur Drive '08 to take a peek at the interiors of some of the world's most luxurious driving machines. Hen parties not included.

"Ah thangyou very much."

There's something about motor shows which seems to attract Elvis Presley impersonators. But somehow it seems more appropriate when they're standing in front of a bright pink 20 foot Ford Expedition stretch limousine.

The show, Chauffeur Drive ’08, has been organised by Chauffeur magazine to showcase the world's best limos, from the stately Jaguar XJ LWB TDVi (read our review of the Jaguar XJ here), winner of the magazine's Chauffeur Car of the Year, in the sub-£50,000 category, to gigantic Hummer H2 limos with interiors like spaceships.

It's also a chance for limousine makers to show off their latest and greatest models.

All stretched out

The exhibition hall is packed with preposterously long limousines. A stretched Chrysler 300C limo sits coolly in one part of the hall, and just yards away a line of brightly-coloured Hummer limos beckon onlookers inside.

All Stretched Out is the UK's longest established American limo company. They've been modifying US cars into limousines for over 14 years, starting with a 1981 Lincoln.

Hummer H2 limo interiorToday they've brought along a Hummer H2, like an elongated version of boxing promoter Frank Warren's Hummer - kitted out with an insanely luxurious interior. With enough lights to rival Blackpool illuminations, it's like stepping into another world.

All Stretched Out founder Simon Ringham explains: "We're experts in fibre optics and mirrored ceilings. I started with American cars at the age of 17 my second ever car being a 1970 Ford Mustang, I still own American vehicles to this day ranging from a Plymouth Prowler to a 1949 Cadillac Coupe. I think I'm the only true limousine salesman who still does work on limos."

(Speaking of Ford Mustangs, check out this edition of Look at the Wheels on That.)

As I move from one flashing, champagne glass-filled interior to another my retinas have trouble keeping up, but it's an incredible show. Fibre optics flash, widescreen TVs relay music videos and seats seem to stretch on for miles.

I make my way from the last luxurious interior to the exit, I pause to let Mr Presley through the door in front of me.

Elvis has left the building.
