Bond EXCLUSIVE: Quantum of Solace video
28 October 2008 Vijay Pattni went along to a preview to see the car stars of Quantum of Solace – including the Aston Martin DBS and an old Volkswagen Beetle… Quantum of Solace is the first EVER James Bond sequel – the story picks up one hour after Casino Royale, with Daniel Craig’s hardened 007 launched headfirst into a dramatic chase sequence on the trail of the mysterious Quantum organisation. Bond and M interrogate Mr White – last seen in Casino Royale sporting a bullet wound in his leg – in an attempt to uncover the truth behind his shadowy organisation, and the action leads Bond and M to a mysterious businessman called Dominic Greene… Greene is the film’s chief villain, and is hatching a complicated plot using his network of high-ranking allies. But Bond has help too, in the shape of Olga Kurylenko – out on her own mission of revenge for her murdered family. But what are the car stars behind Quantum of Solace? 00.01: More than 200,000 blank bullets were used during filming for Quantum of Solace – and they explode onto the screen within the first minute with Bond hurtling through the winding streets and tunnels alongside Lake Garda in Italy in a dogfight between Bond in his DBS and assassins in two utterly gorgeous Alfa Romeo 159s. 00.20: The Aston must be at the dealers having the ‘scratches’ taken out, because we’re back in London and Bond is behind the wheel of an immaculate Range Rover Sport. 00.25: Like Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace previews a brand new Ford – Camille rolls into shot in the all-new Ford Ka, first seen at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, and it’s not long before Bond is back in action… 00.40: Old Ford 4x4 pick-up. It’s an unconventional getaway car. Guess who for? 00.45: Dominic Greene, played by Mathieu Amalric, member of the mysterious Quantum organisation and brains behind the complicated plot in Bolivia, is also a frontman for his eco-friendly company ‘Greene Planet’, and rides around in two blacked-out hydrogen-powered Fords. He’s also got a slice of British class – a beautiful Daimler Double Six… 01.00: It’s party time, and Bond’s DBS must still be at the garage – a fully-loaded Range Rover Sport comes into view, with Agent Fields, played by British actress Gemma Arterton, accompanying 007. 01.25: A battered old Volkswagen Beetle in a Bond film? 01.40: Bond pilots the hydrogen-powered Ford – proving he’s a thoroughly modern secret agent. Auto Trader rating: 4/5 Quantum of Solace delivers high-adrenaline action and accelerates Daniel Craig’s 007 rating in one of the best Bond outings to date – and the cars ain’t too bad either.
