Who will Sir Alan Sugar fire?

27 May 2008

Tonight’s episode of hit BBC One show The Apprentice takes on the glamorous world of supercars.

Vijay Pattni rounds up the hot automotive exotica – including a Ferrari F430 Spider and a Pagani Zonda – starring alongside Sir Alan Sugar’s hopefuls.

Koenigsegg CCX

This Swedish supercar is the brainchild of founder Christian von Koenigsegg and features a 4.7-litre twin-supercharged V8 engine wrapped up in a beautiful carbon-fibre body.

This means the 800bhp Koenigsegg CCX sprints from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds – quicker than a Ferrari Enzo – and can reportedly hit a top speed of 245mph.

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson found the Koenigsegg CCX's explosive performance so addictive he claimed it had helped him quit smoking. And it even ate a tyre...

Lamborghini Gallardo Spider

The gorgeous Lamborghini Gallardo loses its roof and gains an extra helping of sunshine.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Spider features four-wheel-drive mated to a six-speed manual transmission – and a 520bhp 5-litre V10 powerplant.

This means the drop-top Gallardo can sprint from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and rocket on to a top speed of 195mph.

And Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson even bought one, replacing his infamous Ford GT.

Pagani Zonda

Clarkson once described the bonkers Pagani Zonda as a “lion in orange dungarees – kind of fierce, but ridiculous all the same.”

And the ‘fierce’ Zonda sports a 7.3-litre V12 engine from Mercedes-Benz’s tuning arm AMG, producing 550bhp.

Thanks to the Zonda’s low weight and massive power, it can sprint from 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds and a top speed of around 220mph.

Spyker C8

The Spyker C8 is one of the world’s most outrageous supercars, featuring super-cool styling and a mad fighter-plane inspired interior.

The drop-top Spyker C8 Spider features a 4.2-litre V8 engine from Audi producing 400bhp and 354lb/ft of pulling power.

This means the Spyker can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds – the same as the new BMW M3 – and on to a top speed of 186mph.

But peek inside and the real focus of the Spyker C8 becomes apparent – the C8’s aircraft-inspired interior has a host of toggle switches and round dials complemented with quilted seats and exposed gear linkage.

Ferrari F430 Spider

It’s a Ferrari, it’s got a 4.3-litre V8, and it’s topless – this is the Ferrari F430 Spider.

The Ferrari F430 Spider replaced the old Ferrari 360 sporting a brand new V8 engine producing a Nissan GTR-rivalling 483bhp.

This means the drop-top Italian beauty can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 197mph.

Jeremy Clarkson said the F430 was “just about the best car I’ve ever driven.”

Bentley Continental GTC

This British Bulldog comes with some serious beef in the form of a twin-turbocharged 550bhp 6-litre W12 engine.

The Bentley Continental GTC is the roofless version of the super-cool Bentley Continental GT – a favourite of Premiership footballers and movie stars – and accelerates from 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds.

And the monster Bentley convertible can rocket on to a top speed of 190mph…if you really want to.
