Auto Trader is warning customers to be aware of a new text message scam.

A small number of buyers and sellers have reported receiving text messages from Auto Trader informing them of a £1,500 cash prize.

Auto Trader does not offer this prize - nor send competition details via text message.

A text message which claims to be from Auto Trader offering a cash prize is a scam.

The fraudulent text reads: "AutoTrader.co.uk SMS ID: 88DMGJ2619ML Congratulations! You won the £1500.00 cash prize! Please visit http://sms-autotrader.co.cc to claim your cash."

The fake website instructs users to input their personal information including credit card details.

If you receive a scam email or text message, please forward it to our customer services team at enquiries@autotrader.co.uk or call 0845 345 3450.

Alternatively you can report a scam online.
