Glut of used cars in Scotland

Glut of used cars in Scotland - News image

There were seven per cent more cars sold in Scotland in 2009, despite a drop in new cars sales in England, by the same amount in the same period.

With so many new cars finding owners, it’s reckoned there are more used car bargains in Scotland than ever, even though the scrappage scheme has had an impact on the number or pre-owned cars available.

Douglas Robertson, chief executive of the Scottish Motor Trade Association, said: "Fleet and rental cars are more likely to be bought in England, while Scottish car dealers depend more on private sales."

As a result, many of the private buyers snapping up new car bargains will be creating a glut of bargain used cars in Scotland.

Meanwhile, the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers has nominated the Land Rover Discovery 4 as its Car of the Year.

The Volkswagen Polo was voted the best small car while the Ford Focus RS was best hot hatch. BMW took gold in the drop-top sector with its Z4 Roadster while the Audi A4 Allroad topped the luxury segment.

The Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel S took top honours in the diesel category and Mazda won the best family car sector with the Mazda 3. The Citroen C3 Picasso was crowned best MPV.

The great news is that you can buy used examples of all of these brilliant cars here on Auto Trader. So whether it’s a Land Rover Discovery, Volkswagen Polo or Ford Focus we’ve got plenty. It’s the same for the BMW Z4 Roadster, Audi A4 and Jaguar XF as well as the Mazda 3 and Citroen C3 Picasso.
