Paris Motor Show: The wildest cars
06 October 2008 Vijay Pattni is your guide to the hottest cars lighting up the stage in France… Lamborghini Estoque
The Estoque sports the familiar Lamborghini face – with added venom – and massive 23-inch wheels, and looks set to take on the upcoming Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide. Lamborghini hasn’t revealed the Estoque’s engine, but we’d expect the 530bhp 5-litre V10 from the Gallardo, or the 6.2-litre V12 engine from the Murcielago. Watch our EXCLUSIVE video of the sensational new Lamborghini Estoque:

GTbyCitroen
The concept Citroen - with help from the creators behind Gran Turismo 5 - is currently wowing Paris Motor Show goers with its bold design, and features upwards-opening ‘gullwing’ style doors, 21-inch aluminium wheels – and an electric engine with ZERO emissions. And this stunning green-machine packs a massive 784bhp – meaning a 0-62mph time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 204mph.
Renault Megane
The engine is planted in the middle of the car – for better weight distribution – and fixes to a six-speed gearbox with steering-wheel mounted shift paddles. Catch the stunning, wide-bodied Renault racer throughout 2009 across European circuits in the special one-make racing series. View images of the Renault Megane Trophy
BMW X1
The X1 is BMW’s smallest 4x4 and features a “visibly low centre of gravity” which BMW claims is a “clear reference” to the car’s dynamic capabilities – meaning it should handle superbly. If it does go into production the BMW X1 will compete against the likes of the concept Mini 4x4 – which is also made by BMW.
Aston Martin One-77
The Aston Martin One-77 – seen under wraps at Paris – will feature a hand-finished 7-litre V12 engine producing 700bhp and a top speed in excess of 200mph. But the V12-engined, aluminium-bodied Aston will not come cheap – it will cost around £1 million when it hits the streets in 2009. Get to the 2008 Paris Motor Show
Audi A1 Sportback
Featuring a turbocharged AND supercharged 1.4-litre petrol engine, the A1 will emit just 92g/km of CO2 – making it road tax exempt. And this is thanks to an extra electric motor which boosts power – and slashes emissions – to return an average 74mpg on the combined cycle. View images of the Audi A1 Sportback concept
Ferrari California
The drop-top California is the first Ferrari to feature an electric folding metal roof, which opens and closes in just 15 seconds. The stunning California – which echoes the 1960s Ferraris for style – features a 4.3-litre V8 engine developing 460bhp. View images of the Ferrari California
Peugeot 308 CC
Engines powering the drop-top 308 include the 150bhp 1.6-litre petrol unit and a 2-litre diesel with 140 and 260lb/ft of pulling power. The 308 CC will hit UK shores in April 2009 with prices starting from £17,000.
Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer
And Vauxhall used the 2008 Paris Motor Show as an excuse to showcase the all-new Insignia Sports Tourer. The estate version of the stunning new Insignia boasts sensational good looks and practicality, and is the most aerodynamically efficient estate the company has ever produced. Prices start from £17,185 on the road.
Volkswagen Golf GTi
With a Scirocco-inspired front, Touareg-style rear and beefy alloys, the new Golf GTi looks fantastic. And underneath the Golf’s new physique is a tweaked version of the familiar 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine – now with 207bhp. View images of the Volkswagen Golf GTi
