Avoid accelerating harshly as this increases wind resistance

03 July 2008

Cutting your car’s wind resistance could slash your fuel bills.

We show you how to make your car aerodynamic and your fuel last longer.

Am I losing money?

The more streamlined your car is, the more effective its fuel economy.

Depending on your car’s aerodynamics, you might be spending more money on fuel than necessary.

How can I make my car more aerodynamic?

To keep your car as streamlined as possible and help fuel last longer, ensure you:

• Close all windows
• Close the sunroof
• Remove your roof rack
• Remove your spoiler
• Fit a car wind deflector to your windscreen – you can buy these from most garages

Search Auto Trader Parts and Accessories for a wind deflector now.

Avoid accelerating harshly as this increases wind resistance. Move off smoothly to your target speed and this will improve your fuel economy.

You can also slow down to reduce drag – driving at 57mph uses 25 per cent less fuel than 70mph.
