As the world-famous Batmobile gets a parking ticket while sat outside London’s GMTV HQ, Vijay Pattni rounds up the celebrity parking mishaps.

Even Batman has to obey London’s parking regulations – the 2.5-tonne Batmobile was slapped with a parking ticket earlier this week in central London.

The gargantuan company car of Gotham city’s most famous vigilante was parked illegally outside GMTV’s headquarters as it promoted the release of hotly anticipated Bat-flick The Dark Knight on DVD.

But as Batman will have to cough up a few quid to pay for his parking fine, what other celebrities have found themselves stuck underneath the Traffic Warden’s yellow haze?

Christian Bale

Batman may have been hit with a parking fine in central London, but The Dark Knight’s star is no stranger to fines.

In May 2006 the Hollywood A-lister was spotted walking out of the sun-kissed Casa Del Mar hotel in Santa Monica, California, to find a ticket attached to his windscreen.

Jay Kay

You have to take your hat off to Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay – or at least give him your hat.

In March 2004 the Sunday Mirror reported the diminutive musician was spotted parking his classic Mercedes on double yellow lines – but had covered up the front and rear number plates with newspaper pages and taken out the tax disc.

Traffic wardens are not allowed to touch vehicles so they couldn’t remove the paper, and they need a registration number before dishing out a ticket.

The Sunday Mirror’s article said Jay Kay returned to his car – having escaped his fine – “and punched the air”.

Madonna

The Queen of Pop’s workouts have broken more than a sweat – in 2005 the Daily Mail reported on how the singer made her driver wait outside on yellow lines while she worked out at the gym, racking up parking fines of £2,500.

A source told the Daily Mirror that the traffic wardens “wait in a park around the corner and suddenly appear” to garnish Madonna’s chauffeur with bright yellow tickets.

Madge’s driver was non-plussed – apparently he responded to the tickets by saying: “You know I can’t move; you know what I’m here for.

“If you’re going to ticket me just get on with it and get out of here.”

But this isn’t the first time Madge’s chauffeur had to deal with parking fines – in 2002 while she was performing on stage at the Wyndham Theatre in Up For Grabs, traffic wardens pounced on her illegally parked motor and gave her a ticket.

Lord Brockett

The star of reality TV show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! was caught on camera removing the number plates from his scooter to avoid getting hit with a parking fine.

The famous peer told the Mail on Sunday: “I do it all the time – the police told me to.”

And Lord Brockett apparently fitted the number plates with Velcro to make them easier to remove.

He said: “I was parked on private property when a warden was putting a ticket on my scooter.

“The police gave this warden the talking to of his life, and told me the easiest way to stop all this hassle is to cover up your number plate.”

David Beckham

He’s a jet-setting international footballer who’s captained the England squad, a world-famous fashion icon and model…and he loves cars.

But David Beckham still has to follow the rules of the road – in April this year the Los Angeles Galaxy star was given an £80 on-the-spot parking fine along Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

The fine is unlikely to keep Becks awake at night however…in the past year he earned nearly £25 million.

Auto Trader recently had a car previously owned by David Beckham for sale on the site – a customised Bentley Arnage which even has wife Victoria’s name stitched into the seats…

Bugatti Veyron

The 2.5-tonne Batmobile isn’t the only famous motor hit with a sticky yellow fine…

In January this year we reported on a traffic warden ticketing the world’s most famous supercar – the £830,000 Bugatti Veyron.

The female traffic warden spotted the 253mph supercar parked illegally in Manchester city centre and slapped a fine – to a chorus of cheers from jostling shoppers.

Proof that even the world’s finest have to obey parking laws…
