View our step-by-step guide with the image below:

1. Log in to your Auto Trader account (or register if you don’t have one).
2. Visit our advertising homepage and decide how long you’d like your advert to run for.
3. Enter your postcode and click ‘next’.
4. If you chose a magazine package, select the type of advert you’d like to place.
5. Input your vehicle details including registration number, mileage, asking price and your contact telephone number.
6. Check the ‘Telesafe’ box to block all known canvassers for free.
7. Select your car’s make and model and click ‘next’. The Advert Builder page will appear.
8. Click ‘add photos’.
9. Click ‘browse’ to add up to nine car photos from your computer. Ensure they’re resized to 640x480 and click ‘save’ after each photo.
10. Click the boxes on the right to re-order your images. Make sure the most eye-catching image is listed as the main photo.
11. Click ‘preview’ to return to the Advert Builder page.
12. If you have a video you’d like to upload, click ‘add video’. Select ‘browse’ to locate a video from your computer and then ‘upload’.
13. Click ‘next’ to return to the Advert Builder page.
14. If you’re placing a magazine advert, click ‘edit magazine text’.
15. Fill in your advert on screen and click ‘next’.
16. Click ‘edit web text’ if you’d like to make any changes to your online advert.
17. On the Advert Builder page check the confirmation box at the bottom and click ‘next’.
18. Select any other magazines you’d like your advert to appear in.
19. Choose a method of payment and fill in your account details when prompted.
20. Check your inbox – you will receive a confirmation email.
