The fighter jet-inspired Lamborghini Reventon

The fighter jet-inspired Lamborghini Reventon - Feature Image

27 September 2007

The Lamborghini Reventon is one of the most exclusive cars ever built and at £800,000, it’s also one of the most expensive.

In Stuart Milne’s absence, Adrian Hearn takes a look at this incredible Italian supercar.

Murcielago, Gallardo, Countach. Lamborghini has made some awesome supercars over the years. And now there's a new name to add to the list - the mighty £800,000 Lamborghini Reventon.

Based on the Murcielago’s platform and inspired by a fighter jet, the carbon fibre Lamborghini Reventon is as beautiful as it is powerful.

Lamborghini has slapped the 6.5-litre V12 engine from the Murcielago LP640 under the hood, producing 650bhp and 487lb/ft of pulling power. This rockets the 1,665kg brute from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 211mph.

With this monumental power come huge emissions. The Reventon emits a mammoth 495g/km of carbon dioxide and you won’t get much more than 13mpg. But that’s not much of an issue when you’ve got a spare £800,000 to spend on a car.

Like with the Murcielago, the Lamborghini Reventon’s name originates from bull-fighting. Reventon was a legendary fighting bull, which killed the legendary bull fighter Felix Guzman in 1943.

If you’re the posing type, you’ll love the Lambo. You don’t even need to open the bonnet to gawp at the awe-inspiring engine – it’s encased by a glass hood.

And it doesn’t just have looks and performance. To stop the Reventon, the lads at Lambo have fitted 380mm disc brakes to the 18-inch alloy wheels for incredible stopping power.

Buyers can have it in any colour they want - as long as it's green/grey. Matte green/grey.  Inside, the Lamborghini Reventon has a customisable display panel which does what it says on the tin, while drivers can see just how hard they’re driving the Reventon with the G-force meter displayed in the centre of the instrument panel.

And, as with the rest of the Lamborghini range, the Reventon has every car parker’s dream - upwards-opening doors.

It’s unlikely you’ll ever see one on the road. Just 20 Reventons will ever be built making the £830,000 Bugatti Veyron look positively common.

Don’t go getting your chequebook out for the £800,000 Lambo though, as they’ve all been sold with one coming to Blighty.

Incredibly eye-catching and depressingly unattainable, the entire run of 20 Lamborghini Reventons will be built in 2008 at the car maker’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
