Look at the Wheels on That: Greatest Hits

Look at the Wheels on That: Greatest Hits - Look at the Wheels on That: Greatest Hits

05 April 2007

Since early 2006, Look at the Wheels on That has been the motoring column for thousands of petrolheads around the world – so we've rounded up YOUR most popular.

With Stuart Milne at the helm, here are the features which you've loved the most – from a tank to the world's fastest car.

Sabre Tank

Last November we sent our own Keith Collantine to meet a guy with a love of tanks.

When Keith got back in the office later that day, he was mumbling about trading his Astra for a 1974 Sabre Tank, just like the one he'd terrorised half of Cheshire with.

Sadly the parking bays just aren’t big enough for a 4.8 metre tank in his native Clapham. Which is probably good news for the rest of us.

Mitsubishi EvoMitsubishi Evo

Before I was able to sit down, stop shaking with excitement and write a full review of the Evo; I had to wax lyrical about it.

I wasn't yet ready to talk about service intervals or tax bands – I just had to shout about how utterly sensational the performance is. Even a month after I handed the keys back, I can still feel the force with which it could push you back in the seat.

After the Evo, even the most exotic of supercars seem pedestrian.

What a brilliant car the 300C is. Its great value and drives superbly.

But most importantly, it looks incredible.

I remember the looks on my neighbours' faces when I used one to move house – it was a picture, and still six months on, I'm sure they still think I'm some sort of gangland bigwig.

I've since driven the blisteringly fast SRT-8 model, and it's even better.

Bugatti VeyronBugatti Veyron

In July 2006, Auto Trader writer Alex Eckford was packed off to an exclusive motor show at the Hurlingham Club estate in London, with a camera and the instructions to bag himself a sit in a Veyron.

He managed both with ease, and even considered driving off into the sunset in it. Fortunately he didn't – he'd be in chokey, and we wouldn't have got the feature.

He still thinks it looks like a big Audi TT though.

Jaguar XJ220Jaguar XJ220

Built by some engineers in their spare time, the XJ220 became the world's fastest car.

And as far as I'm concerned, it had it all – looks, power, world records…and an engine from a Metro.

It's still one of the most evocative Jaguars of the modern era.

The world's fastest road legal car isn't a Bugatti, nor a Ferrari, Zonda or a Koenigsegg. It’s a 1973 Vauxhall Victor belonging to a bloke from Wolverhampton.

It also happens to have a 1,500bhp engine which makes it capable if hitting 60mph from rest in 1.1 seconds, and can reach 183mph on a quarter mile drag strip. Awesome.
