15 February 2008

Welcome to Alex Eckford's Weird World of Wheels, our weekly round-up of the strangest car-related news from around the world.

In this week's edition we look at some of the planet's most outlandish automobiles and incredible cars.

Is this underwater car (above right) from a James Bond film? No, it's the Rinspeed sQuba submersible car.

The creation of Swiss car designer Frank Rinderknecht, the concept car cost £750,000 to build and has a top underwater speed of 2mph.

Built on the chassis of a Lotus Elise, the car will be displayed in public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Massive sausage crashes

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile (as featured in this edition of The Weird World of Wheels and The Best of the Weird World of Wheels) crashed in the US this week.

The driver of the 27-foot-long promotional sausage lost control on a patch of ice in Pennsylvania in the US. The humungous four-wheeled meat replica was eventually pulled back onto the road by a tow truck.

Volkswagen Touareg: Military Edition

Like the look of the Volkswagen Touargeg but looking for something with a little extra...oomph? Think the standard edition of the German SUV is lacking in firepower?

Feast your eyes on this (extremely) limited edition Volkswagen Touareg Military Edition.

Unfortunately the military mod won't be arriving at your local VW dealership any time soon - it's strictly a concept car.

Still want one.
