16 November 2007 This week: Shotgun nut We all get angry at inanimate objects, but an American man resorted to extreme measures this week in an attempt to loosen the last wheel nut on his Lincoln Continental. He shot it. With a 12-gauge shotgun. Ricocheting shot from the blast injured the man in both legs, and reached as high as his chin. Police say the unnamed 66-year-old from South Kitsap, Washington state, was not intoxicated at the time, and was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Deputy Scott Wilson from the Sheriff's office said: "He's determined to get that lug nut off."
Every morning suburban roads are filled with 4x4s taking commuters at work and children to school. But one four-wheel drive in Talbot Woods, Bournemouth has a different daily passenger. A cat called Sergeant Podge. Owner Liz Bullard said the daily routine started earlier this year when the 12-year-old cat went missing. The next day a woman one and a half miles away phoned Ms Bullard to say she had found Sergeant Podge. The following day the troublesome mog appeared at the woman's house again, Ms Bullard suspects a woman who used to live nearby would feed him sardines, and Sergeant Podge is still on the lookout for treats. Now Ms Bullard makes the one-and-a-half-mile trip between 8am and 8.15am every morning to collect him. Ms Bullard said: "I know where to collect him - as long as he's not wandering the streets."
Like to be environmentally friendly? Love chocolate? Christmas has come early for you. A Dorset company has figured out a way of creating a biofuel from the by-products of making chocolate. The choco-tastic waste products are turned into bioethanol and mixed with vegetable oil to produce biodiesel. Ecotec spokesman Andy Pag said: "This is to show that you can have environmentally-friendly biofuels, and that you don't have to convert normal diesel engines to use it." To prove the point Mr Pag and another of the company's employees are driving a truck running on the fuel from Poole to Mali in West Africa as part of a charity mission. Weird Pic of the Week
