You’ll notice mattresses are not included in the above list. Try telling that to the driver and his passenger spotted on the M5 this week.

The driver and his passenger were holding onto the unsecured mattress as they drove their Citroen Xsara from the M4 to the M5 in Bristol at speeds of up to 50mph.

Motorist Paul Waller filmed the crazy duo as they made the move.

Mr Waller, 42, said: “I couldn’t believe it. There was nothing holding the mattress - not even a piece of string. It tipped up and I thought it was going to fly off.”

Police are investigating.

Cars converted into stretch limos are all the rage.

The Top Gear presenters created three of them in the show’s last series (with Jeremy Clarkson’s stretch Fiat Panda being particularly hilarious).

But sometimes it’s out of necessity.

Dad-of-five Anthony Willis has converted his family’s two Citroen 2CVs into a single 14-foot behemoth.

The 43-year-old from Oswestry in Shropshire spent a year welding the two cars together.

Over two hundred cons - including 33 murderers - at low security prisons have been given keys to cars to drive to work each day.

The Ministry of Justice insist the decision makes economic sense.

Campaign group The Taxpayers’ Alliance said: “It makes a mockery of our justice system.”
