10 August 2007 Skate expectations Roller blades are fun, but for some they're just not... fast enough. Enter the 20mph petrol-powered roller skates. Trading Standards officials have seized 50 pairs of the Chinese manufactured 'Gasoline Skating Shoes' in Bournemouth, after a tip-off from Customs.
David Morton, of Bournemouth Borough Council's Trading Standards office said: "These things are absolutely frightening and would have been every parent's nightmare had they been on the streets. The skates are so dangerous that we are too worried about putting them on to test them." It Asda be Lewis He may be engaged in a battle for the Formula One title, but Lewis Hamilton can now take comfort in the fact his shopping experience has been made slightly more convienient. He now has his own parking space at Asda in Stevenage. The supermarket bosses have honoured the 22-year-old local lad with a special parking spot near the store's door. The space features a name plaque, the initials LH and a Formula One car painted on the ground. Asda spokesperson Michaela Tiernan said: "Everyone in Stevenage is proud of Lewis."
Uses for a Land Rover: 1) As an off-roader TV crews descended on New Zealand this week to investigate claims that a man sleeping rough in a Land Rover was actually Lord Lucan. Also known as Richard John Bingham, the British aristocrat vanished in 1974 after his children’s nanny was found dead at his estranged wife’s home. Despite the fact the well-spoken Roger Woodgate (pictured right) is ten years younger and five inches shorter than Lucan, neighbours suspicions were still aroused. They spotted a resemblance between the pictures of the Lord and the well-spoken 62-year-old, who arrived in New Zealand around the time Lord Lucan vanished. Mr Woodgate lives in the vehicle near Marton with his pets - a possum, a cat and a goat called Camilla. He said: "[Inspector] Sidney [Ball, former Scotland Yard detective inspector] came to see me on Tuesday. He said, 'I can tell you you're not Lord Lucan', and I said, 'I already know that.'” Weird Pic of the Week: Russian subway crash
