It's as if God doesn’t want her to drive. The 26-year-old heiress had her £150,000 Bentley Continental GTC convertible confiscated this week after LA cops caught her speeding on Sunset Boulevard. At night, with no lights on. On a suspended licence. Ms Hilton's excellently-named publicist Elliot Mintz said: "She was leaving the car park, which was brightly lit, and she had not noticed her headlights were not activated. "If it is the case her licence has been suspended, she was not aware of it."
Traffic policing is a tough job. But time spent waiting by the roadside for offending motorists can drag a little. To spice things up traffic police in the Thames Valley have set their onboard computers to play Homer Simpson's 'D'oh!' catchphrase when the automatic number plate reader identifies an uninsured driver. The officers have also programmed their machines to blurt out Jack Nicholson's infamous 'Here's Johnny' line from The Shining, and Dan Aykroyd's 'People like this are a menace to decent society' from spoof cop flick Dragnet - when the camera spots a car linked to a crime.
I've seen car dealers offer a lot of things as deal-sweetening extras. Free insurance, rust-proofing, an extended warranty. But free beef is a new one. US tyre retailer Les Schwab is giving away free beef with tyre purchases at their West Coast outlet. Buy two new passenger tires, pickup tyres or four retreads and you'll find yourself with $7.50 of beef. Buy four new tyres and you'll be better off to the tune of $15 worth of meaty goodness.
