The Weird World of Wheels: 19th January 2007
19 January 2007 Don't forget to come back every Friday for your new helping. Got any stories, pictures or videos you think we should feature in the Weird World of Wheels? Send them to us at editorial@autotrader.co.uk. This week: Flip out Elizabeth Bay is a nice part of Sydney. There are lots of nice cars there. Including a dark blue Maserati 3200 GT. An upside down dark blue Maserati 3200 GT. When a construction worker found the Maserati blocking the entrance to his building site, he found a novel way of moving it. Picking up the car with a forklift truck, he attempted to carry the car to a less obstructive spot down the street. The car wobbled, rolled and fell off the forklift, landing on its roof. The owner of the car is on holiday in South America. Nav off Sat navs are a modern miracle. But there is still a bit of fine tuning to be done. Some of the directions given to motorists by the high tech gadgets is a little creative, to say the least. A 46-year-old driver in Germany drove onto a tram line in Germany - because his sat nav told him to. Realising his error, the driver tried to reverse out of his predicament, but became stuck - holding up over a dozen trams. A tow-truck was eventually called to clear the track. The bus of the future is here. A self-driving environmentally friendly bus you can summon with text message. I'm not making this up. The 28-seater Pod, unveiled at London's Science Museum this week is the result of a five year collaboration between vehicle designers Capoco and the Royal College of Art. The bus will use satellite navigation to locate its passengers on fixed routes and intelligent cruise control to motor about. If there's the option to make the bus brake sharply whenever anyone stands up, the experience will be complete.
![]() Speaking of buses, let this be a lesson to all coach drivers. Don’t try to drive your vehicle round a hairpin bend on a remote country track. It will get stuck. Video: the four-minute parallel park I've had some tough parallel parks in my time, but I know when to give up. Some people don't. Click the play button below to see for yourself.
