The Weird World of Wheels: Dec 22nd 2006
22 December 2006 Each week, we'll be bringing you the strangest motoring news from around the world. Don't forget to come back every Friday for your new helping. Got any stories you think we should feature in the Weird World of Wheels? Send them to us at editorial@autotrader.co.uk. This week: Warden vs warden It really is Christmas. Just to prove no one is un-ticketable, a traffic warden in Doncaster has fined a fellow traffic warden. Warden (and ex-policeman) Keith Bee fined a co-worker who had parked her enforcement vehicle in a loading bay to unload 'essential security equipment'. Passer-by Matthew Davis said: "When she didn’t come back, he reluctantly printed out a ticket and put it on the van. He wasn't very pleased but he didn’t have a choice." Devon knows how they make it so expensive You can get a lot for £179,000. A house, an Aston Martin Vanquish,179,000 things from a pound shop... ...or a garage in Devon. Measuring 12 metres by 4, one lock-up in Dartmouth has sold for the eye-boggling amount. Tied to a 78-year contract stating it must only be used for parking, the garage is big enough to house three cars and a small store room. Note to self - build a garage in Dartmouth.
If you're choosing a getaway car for a bank robbery (not that we're condoning it), chose something with good acceleration, good cornering, and a bullet-proof rear-windscreen. Don't choose a taxi. US bank robber Don Hendricks took a cab from his home in Delray Beach, Florida to a branch of the Bank of America, where he stole almost £1,500. And then got back in the waiting taxi. Unsurprisingly Mr Hendricks was caught, and now faces grand theft charges.
Auto Trader has launched a multi-media anti-drink driving TV ad, featuring a selection of homeward-bound party-goers embarrassing themselves in black cabs. Click the play button below to see the ad for yourself.
