17 April 2007 He said: "I thought after we got rid of Michael Schumacher, 'now we've got a chance again.' But then another superhuman turns up." "I cry he's not in a Williams but I rejoice for F1. I really do." Trackside’s Keith Collantine picked Hamilton’s top five superman moments. Streets ahead – Monaco 2005 The narrow, twisty Monte-Carlo circuit is the toughest test for rookies. But Hamilton took pole position on his first visit to the track by six tenths of a second. He dominated and won both races. Hamilton made a habit of it in 2005, winning 15 of the 20 rounds in the Formula 3 Euroseries, blowing the opposition away. Super-Hamilton rating:
Three-wide – Silverstone 2006 In 2006 Hamilton moved up to GP2 – the feeder category to F1 that races at the same events. Hamilton gave the British Grand Prix crowd the best sight of the weekend. Going into the Becketts complex he passed title rival Nelson Piquet Jnr and Clivio Piccione at 150mph. See the video below. Super-Hamilton rating:
Pass master – Istanbul 2006 At the Turkish GP2 round Hamilton gave his rivals a master class in overtaking. After making a mistake early on he fell to 16th, but responded by scorching through the field. During one daring manoeuvre he squeezed between Timo Glock and the pit wall at 160mph. He finished second having passed Glock and Piquet on the way. See the video below. Super-Hamilton rating:
One-two – Malaysia 2007 In only his second F1 Grand Prix he transformed the race by passing both Ferraris in the first two corners. His peerless race craft kept Felipe Massa at bay, until the vastly more experienced Brazilian spun off. Hamilton clung on in the latter stages to defend second from Kimi Raikkonen while team mate Fernando Alonso made it a McLaren one-two. Super-Hamilton rating:
Alonso beaten - Bahrain 2007 Last weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix saw Hamilton land a crucial psychological blow against team mate Alonso, who he out-qualified and out-raced. He now shares the lead of the championship with Alonso and Raikkonen, and is the only driver ever to have finish on the podium in his first three races. Super-Hamilton rating:
And just to prove he’s human, here’s one less-than-Superman moment: A disastrous debut – Brands Hatch 2003 Having dominated the Formula Renault championship for junior drivers in 2003 he made his first appearance in a faster F3 car at the end of the year and promptly spun out of his maiden F3 race. Second time out he collided with team mate Tor Graves, was knocked unconscious and rushed to Sidcup hospital. Super-Hamilton rating:
