Last week we bought you the amazing photographs of a £500,000 customised Rolls-Royce which is thought to be owned by the Sultan of Brunei’s super-rich family.

And this Rolls-Royce by Indian company DC Design’s isn’t the only modified motor you’d need big bucks to buy. Adrian Hearn looks at the dream machines only millionaires can afford.

DC Designs Rolls-Royce
Built by Indian company DC Designs, this Rolls-Royce – believed to be owned by the Sultan of Brunei’s son – was featured on Auto Trader last week and has a radically modified front but still bears the distinctive RR grille and Spirit of Ecstasy statuette.

But as you look down the length of the £500,000 car, the profile changes dramatically with the rear sharing similarities with a pumped-up Nissan 350Z. Another very un-Rolls-Royce feature is the Lamborghini-like scissor opening doors.

Rolls-Royce Armoured Phantom
The Rolls-Royce Phantom is the world’s premier luxury car – and for £306,000 you can have it with an extended wheelbase. But those looking for something with a bit more security can opt for it to be armour-plated.

The Armoured Phantom is engineered to the highest international security rating and features high-tech fibre composites and special purpose steel to provide protection for the bodywork.

Prices aren’t available but with many Phantoms ordered with a bespoke interior the most well-heeled could find themselves paying in excess of £400,000.

Maybach Exelero
The Maybach Exelero is a one-off customisation based on the Maybach 57 – a car owned by Dragons’ Den stars’ Theo Paphitis and Peter Jones. But while the Maybach 57 is a Phantom-like car, the Exelero has been completely overhauled and strikes a strange resemblance to the DC Design’s Rolls-Royce.

The V12 engine has had power boosted from 612bhp to 700bhp thanks to the introduction of a turbocharger. When testing on the Nardo facility in Italy, the 2.66 ton Exelero hit 218mph and will accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds. Built as a one-off, the Maybach Exelero is currently for sale in Austria – for £3.9 million.

Pegaso Bugatti Veyron
While no longer the fastest production car (the SSC Ultimate Aero TT will do 257mph) or most expensive (the Koenigsegg CCXR is £1 million + taxes) many see the Bugatti Veyron as the ultimate in modern performance.

One man (believed to be a super-rich Russian oligarch) felt the Bugatti Veyron was not quite exclusive enough despite production limited to 300.

So he commissioned Spanish coachbuilder Pegaso to give it a unique touch, modifying the interior with bespoke Pegaso stitching while also upping power to a reported 1,200bhp.

The owner is thought to be the only permanent resident of the Burj al Arab in Dubai – the world’s only SEVEN star hotel where rooms cost in excess of £2,000 a night.

Gold-plated Porsche 911 Turbo
The break-up of the USSR created a super-rich set of individuals thanks to the enormous potential of industry and natural resources.

With money no object, one Russian had a 996 generation Porsche 911 Turbo covered in 18kg of GOLD. Under current prices, this would have cost more than £270,000 – on a car worth around £80,000.

Ferrari Enzo by Edo Competition
To maintain exclusivity, just 399 Ferrari Enzos were built with the Italian car maker anticipating demand would be for 400. And tuners Edo Competition got its hands on one of them, giving it a small makeover.

Engineers at the German tuning house took some of the exhaust system from the track-focussed FXX and tuned the engine to produce 700bhp – a 40bhp increase.

The result is acceleration from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 229mph. With used Enzos commanding an £800,000 price-tag on Auto Trader, we’d anticipate little change from £1 million for the Edo model.

Range Stormer
In 2004 Land Rover revealed its Range Stormer concept – a beefed-up two door Range Rover with 22-inch alloys and Lamborghini-like scissor opening doors. Unfortunately the Range Stormer remained a concept.

But the oil-rich Dubai royal family called up expert modifiers West Coast Customs who created a Stormer using a Range Rover Sport. Just three of these have ever been built with the Dubai royal family currently selling one for £230,000.

Silver Audi A8
One very rich individual – believed to be the ruler of the UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan – commissioned German tuners MTM to build him a customised Audi A8 where the shiny aluminium bodywork, normally obscured by the paintwork is clearly visible.

MTM removed the enamel varnish, sanded the body with a fine abrasive paper and polished it to a blinding bright standard before varnishing the A8 to protect it from the extreme elements.

Brabus Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster
The latest extravagance for the astronomically rich is to have a small yacht to follow your super-yacht. And the road-going equivalent is the Brabus Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster.

Unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the Brabus Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster was pearlescent white and featured a red trim containing more than 5,800 metres of thread.

Power was also boosted meaning the SLR’s top speed was increased by 4mph to 211mph. But the Brabus Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster came with a Brabus Ultimate 112 (based on a Smart Fortwo Cabriolet) with identical paintjob and interior trim as part of the deal. The package cost £535,000.

Mansory Stallone
The Ferrari 599 is one of the world’s most sought after cars and regarded by many as the best ever grand tourer. But tuner Mansory has turned it into an absolute monster, giving it the appropriate name Stallone.

Power from the 6-litre engine has been increased from 612bhp to 720bhp, while weight has been shed with the introduction of wraths of carbon fibre. The result is 0-62mph (100kph) in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 210mph. The Stallone also gets 21-inch rear wheels, a firmer suspension and ostrich leather seats.
