Crashed supercars

Crashed supercars - Crashed supercars

10 May 2007

From bashed Bugattis to pranged Porsches, smashed-up supercars bring tears to the eyes of every petrolhead.

Adrian Hearn looks at the supercars with superscars.

(Oh, and just in case you’re worried only wallets and pride were hurt in the incidents described below.)

Bentley Continental
The Bentley Continental is a must-have for footballers and society’s elite. The 2.4-ton coupe offers luxury and performance, with a top speed of 198mph.

But they don’t float. The owner of this Bentley lent it to a friend in Texas, who drove it into a canal.

Bugatti Veyron
The £830,000 Veyron accelerates from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds and has a top speed of 253mph. But the owner of this model won’t be driving it in the near future.

In March, the Bugatti was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra – leaving the ultimate hypercar more than battered and bruised.

Pictures of the fastest, most expensive production the world being lifted onto the back of a breakdown truck shot around the world within hours.

Ferrari Enzo
Swedish businessman Stefan Eriksson totalled his Enzo, splitting the supercar in two – on the Pacific Coast Highway, California. Amazingly he suffered just a cut lip.

This mysterious incident has more twists than a tango class. Eriksson claimed a man named ‘Dietrich’ was driving the car and ran off after the accident. Other rumours suggest there was a Mercedes McLaren SLR involved, while authorities claim the Enzo was doing 162mph when it hit the telegraph pole.

Dodge Viper SRT-10
Dodge packs an 8.3-litre engine into its venomous Viper, giving it a 0-60mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 190mph. With the minimum of driver aids, the tail-happy American sports car tests your skill and courage to the limits.

This 2003 model rolled three times-and-a-half times, with the driver getting out unscathed.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
The Murcielago LP640 is a super-quick machine, capable of a bowel-bellowing 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds.

This beast went to supercar heaven after hitting a tree and bursting into flames.

Ascari KZ1
The Ascari KZ1 is one of the world’s most exclusive cars. Only 50 KZ1s will ever roll off the production line. The engine of this particular model caught fire. The result: a £235,000, 200mph supercar on the scrapheap.

Porsche Carrera GT
The ultimate Porsche produces 605bhp and has a top speed of 217mph.

The owner of this battered GT lost control of the back end and slammed it into a wall. He emerged from the wreck with just one scratch.

Aston Martin Vanquish
While James Bond drives the Aston Martin DBS, the ultimate Aston is the 525bhp, 200mph Vanquish.

The driver of this £177,000 British supercar was lucky to only suffer minor bruises after aquaplaning on the M42 outside Birmingham.
