James May drives the Bugatti Veyron

James May is nicknamed Captain Slow for his reserved approach to driving.

So Top Gear sent May out to Germany to V-max one of the most incredible machines ever – the 1,001bhp Bugatti Veyron.

Accelerating from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds, the Veyron has a claimed top speed of 253mph.

Richard Hammond races a golf ball

Richard Hammond doesn’t just race quick machines on Top Gear – he’s also done it on Sky’s Brainiac.

In this clip, Hammond races a 180mph superbike against a firework and, er, a golf ball.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX

Earlier this week we revealed official pictures of one of the hottest rally cars of the decade – the tenth generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

The first all-new Lancer in 20 years will pack nearly 300bhp from its 2-litre turbocharged engine and accelerate from 0-62mph (100kph) in less than five seconds before hitting a top speed of 150mph.

But it’s got a lot to live up to. The previous Evo was a tarmac-devouring monster capable of scaring the gutsiest of drivers with its mammoth power.
