For the first time EVER, there are three English teams in the Champions League semi-finals.
Cars owned by stars – past and present - from Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have appeared for sale on Auto Trader. Adrian Hearn rounds up ten of the best.
Manchester United
David Beckham – GMC Yukon Denali The world’s most famous footballer played more than 250 games for United before he joined Real Madrid in 2003. The Galactico’s American SUV was customised with dark blue Italian leather, a top-of-the-range entertainment system and spinning wheel covers.
Gary Neville – Bentley Continental A luxury Bentley Continental once owned by the current United captain appeared on Auto Trader in March. Neville’s Bentley was powered by a 6-litre W12, which produces 552bhp and 479lb/ft of pulling power. This helped shift the 2.4-tonne GT from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 198mph.
Rio Ferdinand – BMW X5 The central defender – who is deputising as captain while the injured Neville recovers – was the first owner of the big-selling German SUV. Powered by a 3-litre diesel engine, Ferdinand’s X5 had a top speed of 130mph and was fully-loaded with sat-nav, two TVs, leather seats and privacy glass.
Roy Keane – Audi RS6 Quattro Avant Keano – who captained United through their golden period of the late Nineties – was the proud owner of a 600bhp Audi estate. Using a twin-turbocharged V8, this monster rockets from 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds, making it one of the fastest estates on the road.
Fabien Barthez – Mercedes S500 The eccentric goalkeeper – who played for the Red Devils from 2000 - 2003 – bought the luxury saloon in 2001. The World Cup winner’s motor was powered by 5-litre V8, producing 306bhp. This enabled the executive German car to accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds before reaching a limited top speed of 155mph.
Liverpool
Steven Gerrard – BMW X5 Gerrard – who guided Liverpool to the Champions League in 2005 – was the first owner of the fully-loaded diesel SUV, before he passed it on to another premiership footballer, Stephen Warnock. The estoril blue model accelerates from 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds and had a top speed of 130mph.
Michael Owen – Jaguar XKR The former Liverpool striker – who is currently returning from a horrific knee injury at Newcastle United – was the first owner of this good-looking coupe. The following owner then went to Jaguar specialists Racing Green and spent £25,000 modifying the motor – boosting power to 460bhp, while lowering the suspension and fitting a SuperSport exhaust.
Jamie Redknapp – BMW 645ci and Porsche Cayenne Two cars previously owned by the former Liverpool captain have appeared on Auto Trader in the past year. His 333bhp BMW rockets from 0-62mph (100kph) in just 5.6 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155mph. The Cayenne Tiptronic – which sits on 22-inch Techart wheels – had a top speed of 150mph.
Chelsea
Joe Cole – Mercedes S320 Chelsea star Cole’s Mercedes was powered by a 3.2-litre diesel engine. Producing 204bhp, the luxury saloon accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds before reaching a top speed of 148mph. The midfield maestro had the Merc fitted with 18-inch AMG alloys, sat-nav and a six-CD sound system.
Jimmy Greaves – BMW 745i Greavsie was a prolific striker for Chelsea in the late Fifties banging in more than 120 goals for The Blues. His BMW was fully loaded with extras including a fridge, telephone, TV and DVD player. Using a 4.5-litre V8, the executive saloon accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155mph.
