Beckham, Gerrard, Owen, Keane and Barthez have all owned cars sold on Auto Trader.

Adrian Hearn runs through the Auto Trader XI – a who’s who of footballing talent and their cars.

Up front:

Michael Owen – Jaguar XKR
England’s Mr Dependable had a short-lived World Cup after suffering ligament damage, and has yet to make an appearance for Newcastle United this season. His jet-black Jag had power boosted to 460bhp and a sporty exhaust fitted by specialists Racing Green Cars to make the coupe a super-quick, ultra-sleek machine.

Alan Shearer – Jaguar XJR
The former England captain helped Blackburn Rovers to the Premiership title in 1995 banging in 34 goals for the Ewood Park outfit. His striking prowess then went to the North East where he starred for Newcastle United. The legendary forward was presented with  Jaguar XJR in 2001 by the British manufacturer. The supercharged V8 produces 420bph, giving the luxury saloon a top speed of 155mph.

Dennis Bergkamp – Cadillac Escalade
The Iceman spent more than £16,500 modifying his American SUV, fitting 23-inch chrome wheels, five 9-inch LCDs and a top-of-the-range Alpine entertainment system. Bergkamp – who played over 400 games for Arsenal – was the first owner of the Caddy, which boasts a 6-litre V8, producing 345bhp.

Midfield:

David Beckham – GMC Yukon Denali
The world’s most famous sportsman bought the American SUV in London and had it shipped over to Spain where he plays for Real Madrid. The 6.2-litre V8 was customised by the former England captain who fitted spinning chrome wheels and a top-of-the-range entertainment system.

Roy Keane – Audi RS6
Keano helped Manchester United dominate English football in the late Nineties with his no-nonsense hardman approach. His crazy Audi RS6 featured a 4.2-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which produced a mammoth 600bhp – enabling acceleration from 0-60mph in a Ferrari-challenging 4.4 seconds.

Steven Gerrard – BMW X5
Stevie G’s X5 accelerated from 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 130mph. But the massive 369 lb/ft of pulling power produced by BMW’s excellent 3-litre diesel engine meant an impressive mid-range performance. The talismanic midfielder had the German SUV fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels and a colour-coded bodykit.

Joe Cole – Mercedes S320
One of the England team’s brighter points from last year’s World Cup failure, Cole was the owner of a luxury Mercedes saloon. The 3.2-litre diesel accelerated from 0-62mph (100kph) in 8.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 148mph. The Chelsea star’s car was fitted with uprated 18-inch alloys and benefited from double glazed front and rear windows.

Defence:

Rio Ferdinand – BMW X5
Ferdinand was the first owner of the diesel SUV. Powered by a 3-litre diesel engine, the German 4x4 produces 218bhp and 369lb/ft of pulling power, enabling a top speed of 130mph. The Manchester United central defender plays a key role in the England team, helping to marshal the back five with captain John Terry.

Gary Neville – Bentley Continental
Manchester United captain Neville was the owner of this 2004 Bentley. Powered by a whopping 6-litre W12, the 2.4-ton coupe produces a whopping 552bhp and 479 lb/ft enabling a top speed of 198mph.

Tony Adams – Range Rover
The former Arsenal captain - now coaching southern coast outfit Portsmouth has also had a car for sale on the site. His 305bhp Range Rover Vogue – which boasted 22-inch alloy wheels, sat-nav and two DVD players - was snapped up instantly.

Goalkeeper:

Fabien Barthez – Mercedes S-Class
The eccentric French goalkeeper bought the Merc in 2001, when he was playing for Manchester United. His fully-loaded model boasted sat-nav, DVD/TV and keyless start. Powered by a 306bhp V8, the S-Class could catapult itself from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds before topping out at a limited speed of 155mph.
