Audi triumphed at the circuit de le Sarthe, covering 380 laps with their revolutionary turbo diesel-powered R10 - the first time a diesel car has won a major international race.

Four different classes race during the event. Audi triumphed in the most powerful class, LMP1.

The other winners were Corvette in GT1, after the British Aston Martin effort retired. MG-Lola won in LMP2 and in GT2, Porsche were beaten for the first time ever, by Panoz.
