With the world's attention on climate change and limited fossil fuels, alternative fuels have to be the way forward. Manufacturers are investing piles of cash into new models; some of which work, others don't - General Motors' failed EV-1 electric vehicle was a $1bn white elephant. Although we need to embrace other fuels eventually, petrol and diesel will be the fuels of choice for the next few years, at least. Car makers are investing heavily to meet European emissions regulations, which are getting increasingly stringent. Ultimately, it's us, the motorist that will make a difference, but the Government need to make a financial incentive for us to switch; not by bleeding petrol and diesel owners dry, but by offering significant cost savings by going green.
