Green Giants - Electric vehicles

With the current technology, electric vehicles haven't really taken off. They tend to appeal to the guy or girl about town who's only ever a short distance from a charging point. Or the hardcore environmentalist in a hurry. Councils are being encouraged to install more charging points, and some local authorities, such as Westminster are offering free parking and exemption from congestion charging. There are two major players in the EV market - the strangely-named Ford Think and the G-Wiz. Both are strange-looking beasts, but that isn't their raison d'etre. They're there to get you from A to B, in the most economical way possible. Despite Ford predicting selling 5,000 Thinks worldwide, so far they have struggled to shift a fifth of that. But it had some great ideas: it could be charged using a regular three-pin mains socket - something that wasn't lost on companies with a conscience, such as the Body Shop, which leased a load from Ford. The G-Wiz has found a number of homes as well. G-Wiz claim it is the greenest car on the road, as well as being the cheapest to own - particularly in London, where it's exempt from the Congestion Charge. Indeed, the savings owners make on the Congestion Charge can pay for the monthly finance payment if you prefer to buy on credit. If that's not a free car, I don't know what is.
