ENZO Ferrari would have been 108 on Saturday.
The driving force behind Ferrari was a successful racer in his own right, before setting up his car building business.
Initially developing factory Alfa Romeos, the manufacturer became independent in 1947 and produced its first road car, the 125 S that year.
The former mule-skinner remained managing director until 1971, but remained a huge influence on the business until his death in 1988.
Under Enzo's gaze, his beloved company became the most successful Formula 1 team in history and built many of the world's most desirable cars.
Enzo's passion was winning races, and it was often said he only built road cars to finance the Ferrari racing teams.
It was fitting that Ferrari's ultimate creation, the 217mph, carbon fibre Ferrari Enzo, should bear the name of its father.
