ADVENTURE bikes continue to lead the sales chart over the other categories of bikes this year.

The reasons are simple; a bike of this type lets us load it up with kit, they have large fuel tanks so we can cover more miles between fills and they’re also comfortable to ride at high speed over long distances.

But adventure bikes are also great to ride in winter as many of them have tyres more suited to cold and wet roads. Large windscreens and fairings also keep the coldest of winds from seeping through to our bones. And the early dark nights? Well, the headlights on these bikes also tend to illuminate the road ahead better than other types of bikes.

Which is why this latest offer from Yamaha makes buying a Super Tenere (also called an XT1200Z) this winter very tempting.

The bike used to cost £12,999 but Yamaha has just slashed £1000 off the price – a saving which can be used to buy insurance for a year or some extra kit or bike accessories.

Some dealers are also offering 2010 or 2011 models at prices around £9,495, like this one from Wigan Yamaha.

See this advert here.

And there are some ex-demo Super Tenere machines out there which have next-to-no miles on them and are being sold for just £9,595 – that’s £2,500 less than full price. Like this one at Chorely Yamaha below.

Part exchange on a Super Tenere is currently available at two dealers too. And remember, we can always have room for negotiating the price on any of these models with a phonecall or visit to the showroom.

But if that’s still too much for the budget there are a number of used Super Tenere bikes currently for sale. Search for ‘XTZ’ when using Bike Trader.

The amount of used stock tends to vary because at this time of year many of the owners of these bikes are actually out riding them instead of laying them up for the winter or selling them on. Even so there are still a good number of used machines being advertised for great prices.
