BMW launch superbike

28 August 2009
News image To successfully enter the World Championship with a Superbike today, a manufacturer needs a production model that really delivers the goods: supreme power, a wide range of engine speed, optimum chassis stiffness, and perfect set-up.

So to prove that they got it right BMW launched the S1000RR at the legendary Monza racing circuit where they revealed an engine output of 142 kW (193 hp) with a weight of just 204 kg (450 lb) including fuel (183 kg/403.5 lb dry weight, 206.5 kg/455.3 lb overall with Race ABS).

Specifications of this calibre make the BMW supersports machine not only a top contender in terms of its power-to-weight ratio and performance, but also, thanks to the Race ABS and DTC Dynamic Traction Control, a new benchmark in terms of riding dynamics, safety and innovation.

The decision to present the new BeeMer at the Italian track was no coincidence. Since the beginning of 2009, Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport has been playing an active role in the World Superbike Championship with the S1000RR production-based racing machines ridden by works riders Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus.
