With a World Superbike specification motor newly fitted to his 1000cc Honda Fireblade, Mason qualified six places ahead of the nearest Cup rider, Kenny Gilbertson on the Kawasaki, and 12th overall on the Superbike grid. 

There was a sense of déjà vu in the morning warm-up, as Gary was once again classified in sixth position overall, fastest of the Cup riders by some margin.

In Race One the Quay Garage Honda rider found himself mixing with Australia’s Josh Brookes on the factory-supported HM Plant Honda.  The race was disrupted when the red flags came out following John Laverty's crash at Hill Top, which knocked the young Irishman unconscious. 

When the race restarted Mason got his head down to cross the line in ninth, ahead of Brookes and seven places in from of the following Superbike Cup contender, Martin Jessopp on the Riders Honda. 

Things got even better in Race Two, with Mason finishing in seventh, six places ahead of Jessopp, and setting the fastest lap of the Cup riders.

Not only is Gary now leading the Mirror.co.uk Cup, having doubled his lead to 20 points over his closest Cup rival, (Martin Jessopp), he is also seventh in ViSK BSB Championship as well, in front of many factory-backed teams.  The team is now focusing on Donington Park, 23-25 May.
