Great start for Mason in BSB opener

Gary Mason proved that he can mix it with the factory backed teams following a blistering performance aboard the Quay Garage Honda at the season opener. From opening practice on Friday through to the final race on Monday, Mason proved his quality, riding the privateer machine to the limit and finishing 6th overall in the first race and 9th overall in the second race of the British Super Bike series. He also secured maximum points in the privateer championship finishing more than 24 seconds ahead of the next competitor in this class and only 0.4 seconds off the fastest lap set by Glen Richards in race one. In race two, Mason again set the fastest lap of the privateer riders, only 0.17 seconds off the fastest lap of the race. Mason lies 6th in the overall British Championship standings. Team Principal Ian Woollacott commented “We are extremely pleased with the results the team achieved this weekend at Brands. “Given we were running a 2008 spec engine generating 10-15bhp less than the rest of the grid and having blown our number one engine in practise, Gary Mason proved that he has the ability to ride the machine to its limit.” The next round of the British Super Bike series is at Oulton Park on the 2-4 May.
