Street Triple R beats Japanese in own back yard

20 March 2009
News image Japanese magazine Moto Navi took 22 new bikes from the 2008 model year to the famous Fuji Speedway and let eight top road testers loose on them to find the best of the bunch. And a Brit bike beat the lot.

Triumph’s 675cc three-cylinder Street Triple R topped the scorecards and earned comments such as: ‘The rider synchronises instantly with bike’, ‘An authentic British bike’, ‘Great pleasure to ride’, and ‘Beautiful balance and harmony. Great sound!’.

Commenting on the award, Triumph Motorcycles CEO Tue Mantoni said: “This is quite an achievement, especially in the backyard of the biggest manufacturers in the world. I have to admit that this made everyone involved with the project very proud indeed.”

The Street Triple R is a tough looking, higher spec version of the stock Street Triple with goodies like fully adjustable front and rear suspension and Nissin 4-piston radial front calipers and radial master cylinder - parts normally found in the supersports category.

The upside down forks are anodised black to compliment an aggressive new Matt Graphite paint scheme with distinctive orange ‘R’ graphics and a two-tone black and grey stitched seat. With Magura tapered aluminium handlebars, this is not a bike for those who do subtle. Priced at £6,229 OTR even the Japanese know you can't go wrong!
