Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman have completed their gruelling bike ride from John O’Groats to Cape Town.

The actor buddies took three months to complete the 15,000 mile journey through 18 countries over two continents, riding on a pair of BMW R 1200 GS.

In ‘The Long Way Down’, the film stars travelled through some of the world’s most dangerous countries including Libya, Ethiopia and war-torn Sudan and Rwanda.

The epic journey follows the lads’ previous trip ‘The Long Way Round’ where they rode the 20,000 mile journey from London to New York via Russia in 2004.

Speaking to the BBC, the delighted duo couldn’t hide their feelings on completing the journey.

Star Wars and Trainspotting legend McGregor said: “It’s been an amazing journey and a privilege to be able to experience these beautiful and diverse places.”

While Boorman, who appeared in Deliverance, added: “Africa is a continent full of undiscovered wonder and we both feel incredibly lucky we’ve been able to experience this together.”

The Long Way Down – which supported Unicef – was filmed by the BBC for a TV series to appear at a later date.
