For 2009 the Derbi GPR gets a new dual beam die-cast aluminium chassis and an asymmetrical swingarm to give it that high-tech supersports look.
Front suspension boasts aPaioli 41 mm upside-down fork, red anodised fork sliders and 110mm travel. At the rear is a single shock absorber.
The brakes are brilliant, with a big 300mm diameter disc with four-piston radial calliper up front, with a 220mm single piston calliper disc sto steady the rear.
The high performance and compact design of the new Derbi/Piaggio 125 four-stroke, four-valve engine, DOHC liquid cooled engine has also been revised for 2009. Power output is 15hp at 9,250rpm.
Derbi’s designers have taken a lot of time to get the ergonomics right because they realise that this is the sort of bike that younger riders will want to ride all day long.
The digital instrument panel has been inspired by MotoGP design and comes with a stylish blue backlit display.
The bike reflects the spirit of Derbi's race winning machinery - the chassis shows off sinuous and stylised lines that start at the powerful double headlight assembly, pass along the tank/saddle unit and end in the raised tail which incorporates the passenger seat, and a rear light that exploits LED technology.
The design of the burnished 12-spoke 17-inch rims gives an even sportier character to the bike.
One last detail underlines the high level of finish of the new GPR: an exhaust that is completely integrated in the bottom of the fairing. This not only reduces the centre of gravity but adds to that MotoGP style. Page 1 |
