BMW reveal DOHC GS
|
05 November 2009 | |
When BMW slotted a 130hp DOHC engine derived from the works endurance racers into the stunning HP2 Sport we knew it was only a matter of time before the Bavarians used the exotic Boxer motor in less track focussed models.
Now we can reveal that the R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure and the touring R1200RT will all get a slightly detuned version for 2010.
The new GS and RT will deliver 120Nm of torque at 6,000rpm as well as a stonking 110hp at 7,750rpm. Insurance-friendly 98hp versions are also in the pipeline.
There are other changes besides chain driven camshafts that open and close radially arranged valves via light rocker arms.
Riders who enjoy the sound of a Boxer on full song will appreciate the new exhaust system: a valve positioned before the silencer opens electronically when the engine revs above the noise homologation range.
And BMW has finally joined the crowd by ditching the quirky indicator switches oneach handlebar, replacing them with a Japanese-style single thumb operated switch on the left bar.
You can see all three DOHC models at the upcoming Carole Nash International Motorcycle & Scooter Show, which takes place from 27 November - 6 December at the NEC in Birmingham. Page 1 |
