The current rise of the “staycation” means that millions of Britons are eschewing trips abroad and choosing to holiday in our green and pleasant land instead. One of the best ways to experience the United Kingdom in all its glory is undoubtedly by caravan, and if you’ve got a large family or simply need plenty of space, a 6-berth option makes sense. Plus, when travel restrictions are a little more relaxed, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy seeing more of Europe, too.
6-berth caravans are generally hardier than smaller models, which makes them ideal for holidaying on a year-round basis – even when the cold weather means you’re more likely to spend time inside. When you buy a 6-berth caravan, you can expect plenty of space without having to compromise on home comforts. Whether you’re holidaying with family or friends, you can expect to fit 6 people into one of these models and still have enough space for dining, entertaining and chilling out. At present, these are what we consider to be five of the best 6-berth caravans on the market:
1. Bailey Phoenix 760
The Bailey Phoenix weighs in at just 1,600kg. However, when you take its features into account, this model is anything but a lightweight.
It’s a twin axle caravan, which is fairly minimal in terms of graphics and bodywork – something which admittedly is reflected in its low price – but when you take into account that all Bailey caravans roll off the same production line and feature the exact same build techniques, this isn’t much of a concern. You can expect first-class Alu-Tech bodywork, optimised internal space and more than enough home comforts. With a television, mains electrics points, a slide-out tabletop, overhead cubby holes for storage, quality upholstery and a kitchenette with adequate space, it’s easy to see why so many families on a budget are happy to make the 6-berth Bailey Phoenix 760 their home-away-from-home. 2. Swift Sprite Major 6
The Sprite Major 6 is the perfect family holiday caravan. It’s long been a stalwart of the family camping trip, and through years of evolution, it’s fair to say that Sprite has almost reached perfection here.
Sitting on a single axle, the Sprite Major 6 is a mid-length caravan which is relatively easy to tow. It boasts a family room to the rear, large windows which allow plenty of sunlight in, luxurious furnishings and plenty of space for dining. While the washroom might appear compact, looks can be deceiving; there’s plenty of space in the shower and the wash basin is more than adequate. With fixed single beds, bunks and a double bed, there’s plenty of space for all the family to get a good night’s rest – and with a 100L fridge and large dinette as standard, mealtimes are a joy. 3. Bailey Pegasus Turin
The Bailey Pegasus Turin is a fantastic caravan for those who don’t drive a top-weight tow vehicle. From a design perspective, this 6-berther has clearly been engineered with families in mind. There are four distinct areas (dining area, lounge, bedroom and end washroom), which are all easy to keep separately neat and tidy.
With rapid warm-up capability (thanks to the Whale air heating system) the Bailey Pegasus Turin is ideal for year-round use – and the large windows ensure plenty of sunlight gets in, even on those days where you just want to stay inside. 4. Adria Altea Severn
For those who want excellent value for money, the Adria Altea Severn is a great choice. While it’s a classic 6-berther, it’s easily adapted to accommodate seven people, and towing it won’t require a huge effort either. At 1,415kg in weight, it’s one of the lightest 6-berth caravans in the UK.
It’s the ideal budget caravan for families with young children who are seeking out a tourer which offers no-frills comfort. There are four plug sockets, which means there’s adequate space for charging mobile devices or powering televisions, and the compact kitchen is just big enough to make meal preparation comfortable. 5. Swift Sprite
The Swift Sprite series of caravans are renowned in the industry for attractive upholstery, creative use of space, utilitarian kitchen areas and comfortable sleeping arrangements. There are plenty of nice touches throughout the caravan, such as large windows, comfortable reading lights, a three-burner hob with grill, fridge/freezer combo and a television point against the rear wall.
Ultimately, the Swift Sprite series of caravans are entry-level model’s which provide more than enough luxury for large families. Those on a strict budget will find affordability without having to compromise on quality – and you can’t say fairer than that. To discover all of our Swift Sprite caravans for sale click here.
