  • Huge repair bill after purchasing a used car

    By Jason O on 16 Feb 18

Every now and again you have the opportunity to buy from a used car dealer who is honest, professional and reliable. Sadly, Britannia Cars are nothing like this. I bought a 2006 Porsche Cayman S from them a few months ago, which visually appeared in good condition and had sufficient service history, with a recent service and MOT. After driving it around for a week, it started making a severe rattling noise, so I took it to a Porsche specialist for inspection. I was eventually given a £2,500 repair bill! The repairs included (priced in parts and labour): new water pump (£541), new horn (£94), new ignition switch unit (£201), diagnosis tests on loud noise (£130), new purge valve (£535), and a new starter motor (£360). Naturally I was furious that these issues hadn't been detected and fixed before the sale of the car. I have since received NO money from them toward the cost of these repairs, despite being assured otherwise. Avoid buying from them unless you want an expensive repair bill.

  • Thank you for my stunning XJS!

    By M P on 04 Sep 17

Outstanding service, care and attention from a good, honest family firm who ensured the experience of buying my first 'future classic' was everything I hoped for. I'm now a proud owner of a beautiful V12 XJS thanks to Ben and his father at Britannia. After a 180 mile drive home and then a thorough shake down by my Jaguar Specialist in Surrey we managed to find a small oil leak and a problem with the accumulator plus a few niggly issues which I was prepared to deal with. However, Ben saw differently and asked me to give his details to the specialist so that he can be invoiced for all the repairs, which Britannia paid for (a pretty sum) without me reaching for my card! Its clear that reputation really mattered and they wanted me to 'feel good' about my purchase. It certainly did and for me, it put Sheffiled on my car buying map! Thank you Ben and Ian.
