Trader Media Group chooses Samaritans as Charity of the Year

The partnership with Samaritans involves various employee volunteering and fundraising activities, helping Samaritans to reach more people.

Our aim is to increase awareness of Samaritans through TMG websites and publications including Auto Trader, the UK’s No. 1 automotive website and magazine.

One of the goals of the partnership is to reduce suicide and distress amongst young men.

About Samaritans

Samaritans was started in 1953 by Chad Varah, a young London vicar. He organised a network of people who would be at the other end of a telephone, ready to be asked anything.

Samaritans is contacted every six seconds.  Last year, 17,200 volunteers from more than 200 branches across the UK and Republic of Ireland took around five million contacts by telephone, email, letter and face to face visits.

The charity also offers a strictly confidential text help line to people in need of emotional support. It’s dependent on trained volunteers and provides non-judgmental support 24 hours a day.

Talking to someone who is perhaps depressed, worried, frightened or suicidal and doesn't know where to turn to, is perhaps the most valuable thing we can do for a fellow human being

How
 we’ve helped

Each year, Trader Media Group helps Samaritans by supporting various events and projects to raise the charity’s awareness.

The money comes from fundraising and employee event match-funding which occurs throughout the year. TMG offices run various specially-themed fundraiser events during the holiday seasons.

TMG Employees also participate in Samaritans events like Stress Down Day in February.

Other fundraising activities include physical challenges like the London to Paris Cycle Challenge and the New York Marathon, carried out in honor of Samaritans. You can read about these events in the News section.

Samaritans want to make emotional health a mainstream issue.

Their vision is for a society where fewer people die by suicide because people are able to share feelings of emotional distress openly without fear of being judged.

Samaritans is a registered charity which offers 24-hour confidential support to anyone in emotional distress. The service is offered by 17,000 trained volunteers and depends entirely on voluntary support.
