Vettel doesn't 'really care' about favourite tag

Wednesday 10th February 2010

Sebastian Vettel says he isn't at all fazed about whether others believe he's the favourite to win this year's World title, rather he's out to achieve his own goals.

Last season, Vettel finished runner-up in the Drivers' Championship, losing out to Jenson Button at the penultimate race of the season in Brazil.

It was an impressive showing from the 22-year-old, who many believe could go one better this season and clinch the crown.

Vettel, though, insists he's not worried about what other people say.

"Happy, but I don't really care. Being favourite or not, I set my target for myself. I know what I want to achieve this year," he told Autosport.

"Most important now is that the car is running and that we improve the reliability and speed. First you need to make your car work, then you see where you are and according to that you set your expectations.

"For sure there is only one target, to be just one step better than last year. I want to win the World Championship. If we are the favourites, that's fine. If not, that's fine too."

The Red Bull Racer, who was at Jerez on Wednesday for the launch of the team's new RB6, also believes it's still far too early to predict just who will be fighting for the titles.

"First of all we have to find out how good the cars are," he said. "Then you have a lot of good drivers in Formula 1, not only one or two, so we will find out who is fighting or who is falling in the position to fight for the Championship.

"Obviously I hope we are as strong as we were last year, or even stronger. Then you've got McLaren and Ferrari, who look very competitive already, and Mercedes with Michael. It's going to be an interesting season for you."
