Hill hopeful Silverstone will be back next season

Thursday 26th November 2009

Damon Hill is "quietly confident" that Silverstone will conclude a deal with Bernie Ecclestone to host next year's British GP.

Silverstone lost the rights to host the grand prix after refusing to sign the contract offered by Ecclestone, claiming at the time that it was not viable.

Ecclestone went on to conclude a 17-year deal with Donington Park, however, that fell through when Donington chief executive Simon Gillett failed to find the money needed to host the race.

As a result Silverstone and its owners, the British Racing Drivers' Club, once again entered the frame, resuming negotiations with Ecclestone, who has subsequently given them a December 9 deadline to sign or else Britain will be taken off the calendar.

Hill, however, is confident Silverstone will sign before the deadline.

"The hurdle is making sure the deal is mutually beneficial. That's got to be part of it, so we don't end up with another false start," the BRDC president told the Evening Standard.
